Hi! My name Justin Artoff (he/him), I am a Professional Counselor Associate and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (CADC I) in the state of Oregon. Are you a good clinical fit?

I view my role in our work together as helping you tune into and listen to your needs, then helping you build the tools and skills to meet them. We all have our own unique experiences and desires, and you are the expert on yourself. As we work together to help you achieve your goals, I don’t consider myself to have “the answers” but act as a guide to help you find them for yourself. In general, I have found that being open and intentional with the process has been beneficial for those I’ve worked with.

My Approach

Often, life’s difficulties, including with substances, occur within the context of our relationships with others. While there can be pain, it is also through relationships we are able to heal and change. I use a person-centered, psychodynamic approach that focuses on emotions to explore your relationships with others and yourself. This sometimes means looking into the past to help understand what shaped you, as well as using our relationship as a lens into your present. By looking at emotions, we can better identify your needs and use their guidance to help support change. We often know what would be beneficial for us but have trouble doing that thing. Learning to listen to and manage your emotions, via mindfulness and somatic practices, can help you bridge the gap between knowing and doing. I also believe that lasting change needs to come from within, and utilize Motivational Interviewing to help you find your own internal motivations and strengths. To guide the change process, I draw from the Transtheoretical Model of Change by continuing to assess the pros and cons, and your confidence in maintaining the change as you move from first consideration through sustaining it. Ultimately, you are the expert of your own life. I aim to create an environment that is trauma-informed, safe, and caring for you to explore any part of yourself you would like. I understand our identities and life experiences shape our stories, and your unique identities and experiences will be a part of the process in our work together.

I look forward to working with you!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Interested in working together? Submit a prospective patient form and provide a brief description of why you are seeking services with Justin. Our admin team will reach out to schedule a 50-60 minute intake and send our new client paperwork. The initial assessment is where we will discuss your current concerns, goals for therapy, and address if we are a good fit.

If we are a good fit, we will schedule 45-60 minute follow up therapy sessions with the frequency and duration being specific to your goals for therapy.

  • Sessions are typically 50-55 minutes, occurring weekly or bi-weekly. I like to start with weekly sessions to get to know one another, but we’ll discuss the frequency based on your needs. I tend to be more informal and want our sessions to be a conversation. We’ll use our time together to discuss any current stressors and practice some of the tools/skills you’ll be building. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable practicing new ways of being and can explore the different parts of yourself in a nonjudgemental way. I do ask that you bring something to discuss or work on to each session.
